Mor zählte zu den führenden Porträtisten seiner Zeit. So arbeitete er beispielsweise für den spanischen Hof. Sein Berliner Doppelbildnis ist Porträt, religiöses Werk und Historienbild zugleich. Die Domherren waren Jerusalempilger: In der Kirche, in der das Gemälde sich befand, „prozessierten“ sie zum Altar, der auf die Heilige Stadt ausgerichtet war!
