Im hohen Mittelalter und der frühen Neuzeit gibt es viele Bildfindungen der christlichen Kunst, deren Quelle nicht die biblischen Schriften sind. Hier überschneidet sich die Kunst- mit der Musikgeschichte, da diese Texte, wie z.B. die Lauretanische Litanei oft auch als Lied Eingang in die Liturgie und Volksfrömmigkeit gefunden haben.
