Welche Zukunft?!-Symposium: Der nächste Staat – Rethinking State

At Kronprinzenpalais, Berlin, Germany
On 22nd April 2018 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Description

Welche Zukunft?!-Symposium
DER NÄCHSTE STAAT – RETHINKING STATE

Which Future?! Symposium
RETHINKING STATE

Do we want full employment or full automation? Do we need an unconditional basic income? Do we want the state to be more or less involved in our lives? During this two-day event, members of the public will be able to participate in workshops to develop scenarios for a future state and ways of working.

The gap is growing between a global class of global citizens and a society in which people are increasingly dissatisfied with the diminishing opportunities they have to shape the state in which they live. How can democracy, legal systems and the way we live and work be aligned to the digital revolution? What role might a future state play in protecting property and promoting the common good? Should it be the custodian an unconditional basic income? Is it already in the process of falling apart due to the power of the transnationals? Will it be abolished in the long term and replaced by self-governing units of free individuals?

SYMPOSIUM
These questions are the focus of the two-day symposium “The Next State – Rethinking State”, in which members of the public can actively participate. Together with representatives from the fields of culture, activism and academia, they will develop new models of employment, governance and participation, in a range of workshops, and examine these in terms of their feasibility. In a public research and discourse process, the basis of a narrative will be developed, which will analyse and probe some of the most important issues of our future.

WITH (among others)
Joe Quirk from Seasteading (USA), Ariella Helfgott from the Environmental Change Institute in Oxford (UK), Daniel Häni from Unternehmen Mitte in Basel (CH), Cornelia Daheim from Future Impact in Cologne, Bernhard Neumärker from the Institut für Allgemeine Wirtschaftsordnung of the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg; musicians Sven Kacirek (Hamburg) & Daniel Muhuni (Nairobi) and the Berlin-based literature, culture and media expert and philospher Joseph Vogl.
