Matt and the Gas Giants formten sich aus den Mitgliedern Matthias (Gesang/Gitarre), Björn (Gitarre/Gesang) und Andreas (Bass) im April 2014. Ihr erstes Konzert spielte die Band in ihrer Heimatstadt Bremen im Frühjahr 2016, im Sommer folgte eine Demoaufnahme von drei Stücken, zu hören auf bandcamp.com. Die Band komponiert ruhige Songs mit eingängigen, wiederkehrenden Melodien. Oft traurig und nachdenklich, manchmal auch wütend. Alternativer Pop ohne Schlagzeug, zart gesungen, mit Akustikgitarren und manchmal rau verzerrtem Bass.
