Film by Home Movies – Italy’s Amateur Film Archive

This is a work in progress project that brings together old travel home movies with Hobocombo's music, producing a reflection on the exotic, intended as “imagination” (possible worlds, possible mythologies) that paints distant fantasy locations.

(Anon., France 1963)

Anonymous images on 8mm, found at a flea market of Clignancourt, depicts a travel in Nigeria by an unknown French businessman. A journey by boat along a river through the African forest, slow and hypnotic, in a sort of unaware Apocalypse Now.

(Guglielmo Baldassini, Italy, '20s)

A selection of two reels from the legacy of the Milanese painter Guglielmo Baldassini, shot in 9.5mm format and recovered by Home Movies and The Chamber Optics, UNIUD.
Waves and cliffs paint dramatic and suggestive seascapes, a minimal series of sketches that compose a one hundred years old exotica movie.

HOBOCOMBO is a Moondog tribute band based in Berlin, featuring Andrea Belfi on trimba and percussion, Rocco Marchi on modular synthesizers, Francesca Baccolini on Korg MS-10. Street chants and counterpoints go electronic, with a trio that begins its inspiration from Moondog and proceeds towards their own personal extravagant sounds and compositions through Robert Wyatt and Italian folk traditions.

HOME MOVIES - Italy’s Amateur Film Archive, was born over ten years ago with the mission to preserve and harness the amateur and family film, a still hidden and inaccessible audiovisual heritage. The Archive was founded and is managed by Home Movies Association, a research group involved, still 2002, in promoting and organizing the study, storage and enhancement of amateur and family film.
Home Movies collects the films preserved by Italian families, with a aim to take care of the immense patrimony that they represent.

Over time Home Movies' range of interest and action widened, including the recovery of audiovisual archives in possession of different subjects such as companies, schools, parishes, associations, and more
