Royal Albert Hall and Birds Eye View present a special screening of Suffragette with Q&A, as part of our Women and the Hall festival, marking the centenary of suffrage.

Directed by Sarah Gavron and written by Abi Morgan, Suffragette (2015) is inspired by the true story of women’s suffrage in Britain. Starring Anne-Marie Duff, Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, with Meryl Streep, the film follows the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement – women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal state.

A post-screening discussion, chaired by Oscar winning producer Mia Bays of Birds Eye View, will include the film’s director Sarah Gavron, writer Abi Morgan, ace producers Alison Owen (Elizabeth, Saving Mr Banks) and Faye Ward, plus Helen Pankhurst, international development and women’s rights activist (and great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst) and Catherine Mayer – co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party.

Birds Eye View’s not-for-profit year-round mission is to bring ever-greater audiences to films by women, past and present. All welcome.
