description:
This event is organized by: American Indian Movement - So Cal, Idle No More - So Cal, and March & Rally LA; and supported by many other groups.
On August 30th, the LA City Council voted (14 to 1) to approve Indigenous People's Day as the second Monday of October, annually. LA City changes will be completed by October 2018. From that year on, Columbus Day will be abolished and replaced with IPD! We are currently asking the community to advocate for the change in LA County, as well; the Board of Supervisors will hear public testimony on Oct. 3. Long Beach City will vote on that day, as well! We will continue to post events within this page.

This year's celebration also offers honor and recognition to Leonard Peltier- our relative, still imprisoned. There is much work to do, and we must work together for his freedom. We hope you take the time to join us on this beautiful day to be INDIGENOUS (especially on Indigenous People’s Day)!
