SOLD OUT

Screenwriter Antonia Roeller will join the Berlin Feminist Film Week and give us an introduction on how the role of women in comedies has developed in the past few years.

Women aren’t funny. This prejudice seems to die rather slowly in the movie industry – inspite of the successes of female comedians in other entertainment areas. Only in recent years the audience has increasingly been able to enjoy a steady presence of female leads in comedies. But how are those female characters generally portrayed? And which themes do comedies convey especially in regards to women? The author Antonia Roeller will analyse this with examples like BRIDESMAIDS and TRAINWRECK.

Antonia Roeller studied Screenwriting & Directing at UCLA in Los Angeles where she also worked for production companies as well as the AFI Film Fest. Now living in Berlin, she works as writer and story analyst. In 2014 she developed the class “Creating complex female characters for Film and TV” which she teaches at Master School Drehbuch. In 2015 she published the e-essay “Career-driven, power-hungry, lonely? The portrayal of female leaders in film and TV”.

The tickets include a vegan breakfast buffet (coffee and tea excluded but can be ordered at the venue) and the 2 hour introduction to women in comedies. This is a talk and will include examples of films however no film screening.

Date&time: Saturday, March 12th, 11 am
Tickets: 10 euro (Link coming shortly)
Venue: Alaska
