Background to the meeting:
During 2016, a study was carried out, looking on how the growing nationalism in Europe is affecting women’s human rights and how movements within EU are organizing to combat this trend. The aim of the study was also to examine how the work to achieve gender equality within the European Union can be strengthened and developed, particularly in the political sphere, and if such a development could constitute a response to the growing right-wing movement in the EU.

At a European feminist meeting in Brussels in December 2016, hosted by MEP Soraya Post, the findings of the study were presented and the need for further strategy building was discussed. This meeting is a follow-up based on the conclusions of those discussions.
