------------------------------ ------
Presented as a part of their EXILED TRILOGY.--- Thematically, The Exiled Trilogy will lead audiences through an accumulation of ideas and influences, tracing the topic of exile (physical, emotional, spiritual) as it curves and curls its way through the breakdown leading up to to WWI, the devastation of WWII, and the strife of modern day, addressing issues of gender inequality, existential alienation, and homophobia.
VINCENT RIVER
by Philip Ridley
directed by Melissa Hawkins
The only contemporary text in Theatre Y's Exiled trilogy, Vincent River flays modern homophobia to expose an insidious core, around which sit a mysterious young man and a mother grappling with the death of her gay son. Using a mixture of realism and stylization, this production will examine the point at which truth exceeds the bounds of language–where the most trying confrontations slip into a new realm, living somewhere in the chasm between who these characters are and who they might be beyond the rupture of their intolerance.
