Registration is at 2:30pm for Music 101 which begins at 3:00pm and is split into three thirty minute sessions which will provide important information for artists regarding sound and audio, getting booked locally, and even legal information regarding the benefits of becoming an LLC. After the event everyone is invited downstairs for drinks and networking leading up to the Sisterbugs show! Panels/Panelists: 3:00pm-3:45pm "Lost in Translation" Understanding the language of audio engineering with Dani Mari, Barbara Adams, and Jess Fenton Dani Mari: Dani Mari is a Folktronic songwriter, producer and curator from Brookladelphia. She is the founder of Female Frequency (currently recording an album made entirely by women), Brookladelphia and Pay for Music Day. She is also a board member of Women in Music in NYC. Barbara Adams: In a 20 year career in audio production, Barbara Adams has worked in every major venue in Philadelphia and toured nationally as a Front of House and Monitor Engineer. Today she mixes regularly at the Tin Angel and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and with DBS Audio at various festivals and concert halls. Jess Fenton: Jess Fenton is a Harlem-based audio and mix engineer specializing in the indie and hip-hop genres. In addition to engineering, Jess performs in her band J LimaFoxtrot and creates instrumental beats for her favorite, local rappers. 3:45pm-4:30pm "Booking like a Boss" How to strategize to get yourself booked locally with Angela Sheik, Joy Ike, and Christianna LaBuz, booking agent for World Cafe Live at the Queen and Philadelphia. Joy Ike: Philadelphia-based independent artist Joy Ike’s music, voice, and writing have drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Norah Jones, and Fiona Apple. As a singer/songwriter who purposefully refuses to be pigeon-holed into any one specific genre, Ike’s path has consistently taken an “anywhere for anyone” approach playing for intimate audiences in coffeehouses, Universities, house concerts, churches, and small theater settings. Angela Sheik: Angela Sheik is a one woman band who has built DIY tours locally, nationally, and internationally since 2004, leading to several sold out shows in Wilmington, DE and performances in many prestigious venues across the US and Europe. Angela is a passionate advocate for women in the music business, and is here to help you implement a strong, professional, effective booking strategy. Christianna LaBuz: Chris Labuz is the booking agent for both WCL locations, World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and at the Queen in Wilmington, and is excited to provide her insight during this panel. 4:30pm-5:00pm "Get Legit" Benefits of becoming an LLC for musicians with Michael Hollister ESQ Michael Hollister ESQ: Michael is an attorney that represents small to midsize companies including production companies, musicians and advertisers.
