Julie will be talking about how her patients’ stories have informed her research and clinical career. And how STEM has opened up many avenues – from being a writer to working in Mozambique.

Julie Phukan is a Consultant Neurologist in London. She graduated from Trinity College, Dublin before working at Beaumont Hospital and at AMNCH. In 2009, she completed a neuroscience PhD on ALS and dementia. At the age of 33, she became a consultant at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London, and is also an honorary consultant at London’s National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square. As a writer, she has worked with the Guardian, Independent and the BBC as well as chairing at the Edinburgh International Science Festival this year.
