Who Changes the World? Girls! Workshop at USM in Portland
In 2012, Seventeen Magazine pledged to never alter bodies of girls with Photoshop, a woman moderated a presidential debate for the first time in 20 years, and Hasbro announced they will be selling an Easy Bake Oven that's not pink and covered with flowers. What do all of these things have in common? Girl activists made it all happen! This workshop will look at what goes in to making change online, and then give girls some skills and tips for building online girl activist communities and using online tools -- otherwise known as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and more! -- to make real change for girls and women in 2013. This workshop will be led by Shelby Knox and is for teens and young women ages 15-23. The cost is $10 but scholarships are available. Workshop runs from 1p-3p. Register here: https://hghw.wufoo.com/forms/w7w9q9/

Building the Global Girl Revolution Public Talk with Shelby Knox at USM in Portland
You couldn't have missed it: girls all around the world are standing up and making themselves heard...and making real change. What's inspiring the Malalas of the world? How are they making themselves heard over all the adults? And who are the adults that are listening to and helping them? Join for a look at what is driving, supporting, and amplifying girls’ activism worldwide and a conversation about how you can help strengthen the global girl revolution. Reserve your seat today! This talk will be given by Shelby Knox at 4p. Reserve your seat here: https://hghw.wufoo.com/forms/building-the-global-girl-revolution-talk/

Who is Shelby Knox?

Shelby Knox is nationally known as the subject of the Sundance award-winning film, The Education of Shelby Knox, a 2005 documentary chronicling her teenage activism for comprehensive sex education and gay rights in her Southern Baptist community. She has appeared on Today, the Daily Show, Hardball, and sat down with both Dr. Phil and Al Franken to discuss sex education and youth activism. Shelby travels across the country as an itinerant feminist organizer, doing trainings, workshops and civil disobedience in the name of reproductive justice and sexual health. She consults for the Girls Leadership Institute, Plan B and Trojan, among others. Shelby lives in New York City, where she is working on a book about the fourth wave of feminist activism and plotting the revolution via Twitter, @ShelbyKnox.
