Girls! Workshop for Young Organizers Saturday, April 6th, 1-3pm at USM Wishcamper Center in Portland, ME In 2012, Seventeen Magazine pledged to stop Photoshopping girls’ bodies, a woman moderated a presidential debate for the first time in 20 years, and Hasbro announced they will sell an Easy-Bake Oven that's not pink. What do all of these things have in common? Girl activists made it all happen! This workshop will look at what goes in to making change online and give participants tips for building online girl activist communities and using online tools -- otherwise known as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and more -- to make real change for girls and women in 2013. This workshop is led by Shelby Knox and is for teens and young women ages 15-23. The cost is $10 and scholarships are available. Shelby Knox is nationally known as the subject of the Sundance award-winning film, The Education of Shelby Knox, a documentary chronicling her teen activism for comprehensive sex education and gay rights in her Southern Baptist community. Shelby travels across the country as a feminist organizer, doing workshops and activism in the name of reproductive justice and sexual health. Shelby lives in New York City, where she is working on a book about the fourth wave of feminist activism and plotting the revolution via Twitter, @ShelbyKnox.
