Lecturer’s Biography: 
Dr. Chia Longman is Lecturer in Gender and Diversity Studies at Ghent University, Belgium. Her research is in the anthropology of gender, ethnicty and religion and she has studied women's identity politics in minority religious communities in Western Europe, including Orthodox Jewish and Muslim women. She has published widely in journals including the European Journals of Women's Studies, Ethnicities, Social Compass and Social Anthropology. In 2010 with G. Coene she edited Féminisme et multiculturalisme. Les paradoxes du debat (Brussels: Peter Lang) and a book in Dutch Women Differ: Gender and Cultural Diversity is forthcoming (LannooCampus). She was chief editor of the Dutch Journal of Gender Studies until 2010 and is currently Executive Editor of the new international journal Religion & Gender. The lecture will be followed by discussion.
