The International Women's Strike on March 8, 2017 (International Women's Day) is a day of action, planned and organized by women in more than 30 different countries. In the U.S. March 8 will be a day of action organized by and for working women, women of color, Native women, disabled women, immigrant women, Muslim women, lesbian, queer, and trans women. We strike in many different ways for labor rights, a viable social safety net, an end to gender violence, racism, and xenophobia, reproductive justice and environmental justice. Townsend Park, Albany (Henry Johnson Boulevard between Washington and Central) 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Lunch Hour Rally People of all genders welcome. Wear something RED. https://www.facebook.com/groups/WomensStrikeAlbany/ ONLY TOGETHER WILL WE OVERCOME! EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS TRUE EQUALITY FOR ALL WOMEN IS WELCOME!! Albany's International Women's Strike event is being organized by a group of women from Resist4Repro, DSA Albany, and Citizen Action. This event has been endorsed by DSA Albany, Citizen Action, Inaugurate Resistance and Capital District Coalition against Islamophobia. We demand: - to receive equal pay for equal work. - free childcare and universal pre-k to help make working a feasible option for women with children. - an end to appearance-based discrimination in the workplace that politicizes women's bodies. This includes African American women with natural hairstyles and Muslim women who wear head coverings. How we choose to clothe our bodies is no one’s business but our own! - to empower women to make their own choices regarding their reproductive health (and NOT HOBBY LOBBY!!!) - to ensure that transgender individuals can live as their true gender without fear of being passed over for a promotion or losing their jobs. We will be picketing and making our voices heard with a variety of local social justice organizations. We will have more information available on ways you can get involved.
