What came to be known as Section 28 had a devastating impact on the lives of queers of all ages. It stands to be remembered as a moment in our shared history, where those affected banded together to resist their violent oppression in order to be recognised. Join us for a screening of We Have Rather Been Invaded (2017), a new 40-minute, video that looks at the legacy of Section 28, the notorious law prohibiting the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality by British schools and local authorities. The video examines the role of activism and our understanding of this piece of legislation thirty years on. It is made up of archival materials and interviews with those affected by Section 28. Following the screening, we will be joined by a panel who, with the help of archival materials from Glasgow Women's Library, will inform our collective reflection on the impact of this piece of legislation, its effect on the queer subjectivities of the young people who grew up under it and the ongoing role of queer activism and solidarity in the face of our ongoing oppression. Come along to talk, make and organise together. £5 suggested donation. No one turned away for lack of funds, all profits go to LGBT Unity Scotland Following the screening please join us for an evening of live performances also at the art school. https://www.facebook.com/events/267821503751944/
