Free Software and Open Source Foundation (FOSSFA) together The South Africa Information Technology Association, together with partners, is pleased to announce the African Conference on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and the Digital Commons (IDLELO 8) 2018.
IDLELO summits have been held in Nairobi (2014), Abuja (2012), Accra (2010), Dakar (2008), Johannesburg (2006) and Kampala (2015). Durban is a prime choice as host given its commitment to Open Source Technology. The area’s natural beauty and successful tourist industry promise a successful summit both in terms of substantive discussions and a positive South African experience. This 8th summit coincides with the 20th Anniversary of FOSSFA.
The main objectives of the summit include to:
Review and recommend resolutions to be adopted at a continental level
Promote local community uptake of FOSS
Promote the use of the FOSS model in African development
Promote the integration and adoption of FOSS in National Policies for countries in Africa
Use FOSSFA expertise & reach to add value to FOSS initiatives
Promote partnership in FOSS initiatives in South Africa and the region
In our all our work, whether as individuals, government, private sector or civil society, we should all be contributing towards building on the value of the open source model for Africa’s development.
IDLELO is the meeting place for FOSS community, enthusiasts, supporters, advocates, Thought Leaders & Decision Makers.
