Feminism & Tech: Feminist Archiving in the Digital Age

At The Feminist Library, London, United Kingdom
On 14th April 2018 noon - 4:30 p.m.

Description

We opened this year's Feminism & Tech series with a focus on the importance of Feminist Consciousness in the conversation, with an introduction to the concept of Consciousness Raising (CR) and feminist critique of technology.

This time round we'll be talking archiving in the digital age from a feminist perspective, and welcoming speakers with perspectives in feminist filmmaking, digital archiving and feminist archives before the age of the internet, including inspiring women from Feminist Archive South (FAS), Goldsmith's, University of Arts London and the Feminist Library itself.
We are inviting you to join the discussions, try out feminist archiving tools and see feminist films that shine a light on the area.

Schedule of the day:

12-1:45 Introduction to feminist archiving - past and present - with talks from FAS's D-M Withers and Alison Bancroft, Goldsmith's Althea Greenan, UaL's Charlotte Hunt and Feminist Library's Gail Chester, followed by open discussion

1:45-2:15 Lunch break

2:15-3:00 Feminist Library tech & archiving tour

3:00-4:30 Workshops - zine making & cataloguing - & film screenings

*The event is free but please donate generously. The Feminist Library strives to make its events accessible to all, but does not receive any statutory funding and relies mostly on donations for its survival. The best way to help the Feminist Library is to become a Friend by signing up to give a regular donation. To donate online or find out more about other ways you can help, go to:
