Join us for an evening exploring women’s history as shown in the archives of Bishopsgate Institute and beyond. Find out more about grass roots protests, everyday women's lives, and the campaigns that have motivated women from the second wave of feminism in the 1970s to today. Hear from speakers about the importance of recording and sharing women's histories, and browse inspirational materials that document the activism of women in the last 50 years through a special, pop-up display.

19:10 Nicky Hilton, Library and Digital Archives Manager, introduces the Women’s and Feminist Collections held at Bishopsgate Institute.
19:30 Gail Chester, Magda Oldziejewska and Anna Pigott, from The Feminist Library, discuss the creation of the library, and the herstories that are recorded in the collections. The Feminist Library was set up in 1975 to preserve the writing and the knowledge of the Women’s Liberation Movement, and continues to be a space where researchers, activists and interested members of the public can learn about and make feminist history. 19:50 Halima Khanom, Heritage Professional, discusses how to challenge absences and hierarchies within the arts and cultural sector.
20:10 ‘How to avoid being written out of history’ with Dr Charlotte Cooper, psychotherapist and cultural worker.
'In this talk I explain how I do that through writing and recording my own histories though diaries, sharing my histories through zine-making, creating community histories through fat activism, and preserving my work through archives. I hope to encourage people, especially women, to think about how histories are made, and to take power by telling our own stories.'
