The Suffragettes : Millennial Rebels at Islington Arts Factory
PANEL DISCUSSION
Monday 19th March 2018, 7pm - 9pm.
Join milliner and designer Claire Strickland and fine art Wet Plate Photographer Nicolas Laborie for a panel discussion chaired by Anna McNay (art writer and editor), with special guests Dr Diane Atkinson (historian and author of recently published book 'Rise Up Women!: The Remarkable Lives of the Suffragettes') and Vanessa Woolf (professional storyteller of London Dreamtime).
Through the discussion we will look at the role of artists, creativity and storytelling to bring to life the figures of the past and connect with the young people of today.
This discussion is part of the exhibition 'The Suffragettes : Millennial Rebls' which runs from 16th - 23rd March 2018 at Islington Arts Factory. The unique series of Wet Plate Collodion photography and specially designed and crafted hats and millinery celebrates the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, the Act which granted some women over 30 the vote in the UK. This was the first time women had voted in the UK.
