At The Arab British Centre, London, United Kingdom
On 15th March 2018 10:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Description

OFFER £15 day ticket for all 3 two hour workshops

Join us for a day of thought-provoking workshops, talks and discussions on some of the most pressing issues that artists face today. Led by female creative industry leaders and artists, AWAN's careers day is set to inspire both emerging and established artists with alternative narratives of their own value and contribution to the creative industry. Each speaker will explore how artists can embrace new ideas towards climate change, activism and local communities and financial models.

A fantastic way to network, share and exchange ideas, this is a day not to be missed! Open to all artists and creatives.

1-3pm- Sustainable financial models and creative entrepreneurship ( Dr. Siân Prime, Goldsmiths)

3.30-5.30pm- The power of outreach work in artistic practice (Amerah Saleh, spoken word artist)

Speakers:
Sholeh Jonston is a coach, facilitator and Associate of Julie’s Bicycle, where she was previously Head of Creative Programmes. She has over ten years experience across the creative industries exploring the role of culture in systemic change, and has worked across different art forms in the UK and internationally on issues such as climate change and environmental sustainability, climate justice, intercultural understanding and well being. Prior to her work at Julie’s Bicycle, Sholeh organised R&D study visits and collaborative artist labs between the UK and the Middle East.

Dr. Siân Prime is Deputy Director for Goldsmith’s Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE). Her expertise lies in developing entrepreneurial thinking and potential, working in particular with recent graduates to move their creative thinking towards founding innovative businesses as part of a project with Nesta (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts). Working as a trainer, consultant and workshop facilitator, she has worked with the British Council, the Arts Council England and internationally, including in Beirut.

Amerah Saleh, a Yemeni spoken word artist based in Birmingham, will lead this workshop dedicated to socially engaged artistic practice and participatory and collaborative outreach work. Amerah’s own outreach work focuses on empowering young people, a group whose voices are not often heard in public discourse. Through her organisation, Creative Superheroes, she has developed and supported young artists in Birmingham, allowing them to gain work and commissions.
