BFFW 2018: Workshop: Creating characters for books and film

At Bei CRAFT, Berlin, Germany
On 11th March 2018 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Description

Creating characters for books and films avoiding stereotypes

This workshop aims to highlight the role of media in the attempt of reproducing or affirming gender stereotypes and in the same time the potential of those media to change the trends and engage in a new way to show and produce a different perception of gender-based reality.
Concepts introduced during the workshop: narrative power in media, gender roles in media, heteronormativity, hegemonic masculinity in media and potential practical solutions to improve the situation. Together some examples of series and films that defy gender stereotypes will be watched and discussed. The last part of the workshop is an active writing part.

Length: 2.5 hours

Price: 12€* / 18 €

Instructor: Margherita Sgorbissa (Women Writing Berlin Lab)

This festival is aiming to support aspiring filmmakers and other interested in filmmaking, who are not usually represented in mainstream cinema. The workshops have limited space and therefore these are only open for women*, non-binary, trans and queer people. The festival itself is not separatist and our film screenings are open to all genders

*Reduced fee for students / low income earners / unemployed.
