Celebrating Refugee Women's Activism

At The Evelyn Oldfield Unit, London, United Kingdom
On 8th March 2018 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Description

At the Evelyn Oldfield Unit, we believe the strength and resilience of refugee women are deserving of celebration.

The Evelyn Oldfield Unit and members of its Research for Action and Influence Project are delighted to announce it will be hosting a networking event and a panel discussion on the stoic accomplishments of refugee women activistes in London on Thursday 8th March, in celebration of International Women's Day.

The refugee crisis, Syrian or otherwise, has dominated the news headlines in recent years, with the spotlight on death, destruction, and decay. Despite the very gender-blind asylum policy , refugee women from all over the world have shown resilience in rebuilding their lives in their receiving countries.

This panel invite you to explore the side of the refugee crisis with hope and high esteem of a better future, not only for refugee women but for our communities to live in peace and harmony.

Looking at the impact of conflicts and war on women, with reference to the experiences of refugee women from Congo, Algeria, Iran , Yemen and Lybia, You will have the opportunity to learn and ask questions about how we can work togeher towards justice, human rights and participation for women who seek sanctuary in the UK.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to view a short film, an exhibition, and enjoy some delicious food provided by Migrateful, a cookery and language initiative where asylum seekers, refugees and migrants struggling to access employment due to legal and linguistic barriers, teach their traditional cuisines to the public. This project aids their integration process by addressing obstacles of destitution, unemployment and language barriers.

The event is free but please make a small donation which will go to Migrateful.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the 8th.

On behalf of the Research for Action and Influence Team :

Majeda Korbani ( refugee woman activist from Syria)
