For the #womenstrike 2018, we (a group of mostly men) intend to be in solidarity with our striking comrades, providing support to women and non-binary people striking from both waged labour and from unpaid work - domestic, emotional, caring or otherwise.
This event is intended to detail what provisions we are making for the day, so that comrades know what they can expect and feel more able to come to the assembly with their young ones.
See the main event: London Women's Strike.
*** FOOD ***
We will be providing food to our striking comrades during the assembly taking place on Russell Square as part of our communal kitchen initiative. We will be serving vegan chilli and rice from 12.30pm onwards. This will be really nice, and also gluten, dairy, nut, sesame and meat free :)
We will have some additional snacks available for kids, like fruit.
*** KIDS PROGRAMME ***
We will be running a Kids Strike programme which will be packed full of fun activities for kids from 12-4pm, in both Russel Square and a nearby indoor space.
Some of the activities we have planned include making a banner for the evening march, drawing and colouring, music, and parachute games. We will also have play-doh, bubbles, story books, and movies on hand in case the weather turns bad or if kids want to play quietly.
We anticipate most kids will be quite young since it is a school day, but we have prepared some activities for slightly older kids in case, in the form of mini skill share workshops including creative writing and digital animation.
*** VOLUNTEERS ***
Many of the volunteers involved have safeguarding and/or first aid training to ensure the safety of all children entrusted to our care. All of our volunteers have at least some experience of working with kids of different age groups, and we will have a safeguarding protocol in place to ensure that there will always be an adequate ratio of volunteers to children.
A final call for the men folk - if you are able to assist with social reproductive work on March 8th, and aren't already involved, message Plan C London or email london@weareplanc.org with "Repro Volunteer" in the subject line. For example, if you are really into juggling, you could run a juggling workshop with the kids!
Any other questions or comments - post below, message us or email at london@weareplanc.org with "Women Strike Repro" in the subject line.
Onwards!
