City Women's Strike teach out & rally

At Northampton Square, London, EC1V 0, United Kingdom
On 8th March 2018 10:30 a.m. - noon

Description

We call on students and staff of all genders from City to support the Women's Strike on 8th of March, International Women's Day! We have a teach-out at City and then join the Russell Square Rally!

What?
Four exciting short discussions for you:
Dr Karis Campion (Sociology) on Why we need Intersectional Feminism
Dr Jo Littler (Culture & Creative Industries) on Women behaving Badly
Holly Powell-Jones (Journalism) on Social media as a tool for Feminist activism
Dr Grietje Baars (Law) on the Yarl's Wood women's hunger strike

Why?
We're holding the teach-out for students to show you what we think education should be all about! It's part of the UCU Strike, on International Women’s Day - and we join the Women’s Strike "a new international women’s movement, which has only grown in strength and determination since exploding onto the streets in recent years. From Argentina to Poland, from Ireland to Mexico, women are making connections, building alliances and taking action against our current conditions of womanhood. The Women’s Strike rejects the decades of economic inequality, criminalization and policing, racial and sexual violence, and endless global war and terrorism. The Women’s Strike is a strike for solidarity between women – women of colour, indigenous, working class, disabled, migrant, Muslim, lesbian, queer and trans women. On 8 March, in cities and towns across the UK we will meet each other on the streets and strike against a system of power that keep us isolated and divided from one another."

When & where?

Thursday, 10:30 - 12 at the Bandstand in the middle of Northampton Square!

And then?

Then we march down to Russell Square to join the Women's Strike rally which has an awesome lineup of speakers - see poster attached!!

Can't wait to see you there!!!

PS if you're in the neighbourhood on Wednesday come see us on the picket line and join us for some Women's Day banner making in a local venue! pm us for further details.
