Mark this year's International Women's Day by rallying for women's liberation and reproductive justice. Come to the guildhall to show solidarity with women around the world organising for equality, respect and dignity.
There will be speeches, music, performance and a speak out.
Bring pots and pans to make noise.
International Women's Day originates from the 1910s in New York, where thousands of factory workers went on strike for health and safety, better pay and job protection. 100 years ago some women won the right to vote by organising on the streets, agitating and rabble rousing. 50 years ago the civil rights movement here was inspired by women working in the factory demanding civil rights. We have come so far, but have so far to go!
At a time when there is a global #metoo movement highlighting the ways in which women's oppression permeates all aspects of society, it is crucial we raise our voices together to say #timesup! With the Repeal movement shaking Ireland, we need to organise for reproductive justice for all women, everywhere. With Universal Credit, PIP, cuts to the NHS and social services, women feel more and more of the brunt of caring for the current and next generations. We need to stand together to protect the social services that women, and all of society, so desperately need.
Bring signs, banners, messages, pots and pans, noisemakers, colours, joy and solidarity! Bring your wains, your ma, your sisters and your grandmas!
