Feminist Book Club for Moms - Parents Make Books: Sexuality

At New Women Space, Brooklyn (NY), United States
On 18th February 2018 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Description

Feminist Book Club for Moms: No Reading Required!
A Book Club for mom's who don't have time to read! Hosted by FamilyCollective.org
This month, rather than discussing other people's parenting books, we will be making our own! We will resume our regular book club discussion format next month. See FamilyCollective.org for the dates and schedule and to sign up to recieve regular updates. Looking forward to co-hosting with Amanda Finuccio. All details are below and you can see examples at http://www.amandapfinuccio.com/parents-make-books.

Parents Make Books

Sexual health education at school isn’t always comprehensive, the internet is chock full of misinformation, and there’s no one better to teach your child about their body than you.

Let’s Make Books is a bookmaking workshop for parents/caregivers who want puberty and body image education to start at home. It’s for parents who want to write the stories they share with their children — stories that are powerful, supportive, and values-based.

We begin with introductions, use creative writing to explore stories around puberty and body image, learn to make images, and illustrate our stories using everything from color pencils to collage*. By the end of the day you will take home a handmade book for your child, filled with a narrative you want to share with them.

This event will be lead by Amanda Finuccio. She is a graduate student at the School of Visual Arts, has a background in graphic design, and has made a variety of books from cookbooks to zines to poetry. She thinks books are awesome and can't wait to make them with you.
