This anniversary event in Yakima will kick-off a voter registration and mobilization drive to register new voters, engage impacted communities, harness our collective energy to advocate for policies and candidates that reflect our values, and collaborate with our partners to elect more women and men who believe that "Women's Rights are Human Rights".
Saturday's Women's March on Yakima 2018 will kick off at Millennium Plaza with four fantastic speakers:
Christine Brown - who remembers gathering in the upstairs conference room of the old YWCA building for the organizing meetings of the Yakima Chapter of the National Organization for Women in the early 70's. Christine spent 30 years sharing the news of our community where she met many of you and relayed your joys and concerns. Today she is running to represent the people of the 4th Congressional District in the House of Representatives.
Rocío Carrión is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of I AM Empowerment LLC.
Joy Dumas is a remarkable high school senior who is wise beyond her years. She is a Yakima Herald Youth Unleashed correspondent, a varsity volleyball player at Davis High School, a viola player in the school’s chamber orchestra, and is active in musical theater.
Debra Whitefoot is the ROSS Grant/Housing Services Coordinator at Yakama Nation Housing Authority.
The Women's March, which follows the speakers, begins at Millennium Plaza and will proceed along Yakima Ave., First St., and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way to the Yakima Convention Center and will end back at Millennium Plaza.
Representatives from community service organizations, a voter registration drive, and candidates for office will be available at Millennium Plaza following the march. Canvass training, hosted by Washington State Democrats, will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Yakima beginning at 1:30 PM. https://www.facebook.com/events/147637685895095/
