A sister march in solidarity with The Women's March 2018
Lawrence, KS: The February Sister announce the Women's March 2018 – Lawrence Still Marching to be held Saturday, January 20th at 1 P.M. at the South Park Gazebo, 1130 Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, Kansas. We celebrate the accomplishments of women in the political sphere in this year since the Women's March 2017 and we prepare ourselves for the election year to come.
A great many women have become politically active this year; they have registered and campaigned for candidates on all levels of government. Their votes are credited with democratic victories at the polls and they, themselves, are running for office in record numbers. It has been a busy, wonderful year. Women have also been in the forefront of protests to protect the Affordable Care Act, to stop the North Dakota Pipeline, and to protect women and promote women in the workplace and in society at large.
2018 is an election year and will require more activity, more concentration, and more work. So while we celebrate we also prepare ourselves for the task ahead. And have a little fun beside
Ardys Ramberg will provide music for arriving marchers. Six local, dynamic women will speak to us. They include Lisa Larsen, Lawrence City Commissioner, Brooklynne Mosley, Democratic Organizer; Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, past Poet Laureate of Kansas; Julia Goodfox, dean, College of Natural & Social Science, HINU; Ursula Minor, president Lawrence NAACP chapter; and the Rev. Sherrie Taylor-Jones, Unity Church of Lawrence. Cindy Novelo, our choir director, will teach us songs to sing as we march.
The march itself will take us down the north side of Massachusetts to City Hall at 6th and back again. We will sing and carry signs and cover the city in little pink hats.
We hope that people will join us in the joyous celebration of women and the power they wield.
