Round 4!
Post-Xmas purge. Come let out your holiday tales over some tea and coffee, maybe some leftover mince pies.
A monthly meetup for LGBTQIA+ folks with mental health issues, to create space for us where there isn't always space provided.
No set agenda, there will be 2 rooms available, the main bar area of DSFL and the quiet room to allow for different needs and social interactions. Pamphlets will be available based around LGBTQIA+ specific mental health and services available.
Hopefully this will provide a safe, accessible space for us to talk about mental health issues, specifically not talk about them or just to come together and provide support or much needed disctractions for our queer family.
I realise that mental health services are stretched for everyone but please respect the specific need for LGBTQIA+ spaces and only attend if you self-identify as part of the community.
Free tea and coffee and biscuits (vegan and gf too) will be provided.
If you have any ideas, suggestions, requests or just want to find out more, please drop me a message or email at zacharykilburn@gmail.com
This is a community event, there won't be any medical proffesionals present. If you feel like you are in need of professional help, please see your GP or speak to the Samaritans (http://www.samaritans.org/), MIND (https://www.mind.org.uk/ - There are a list of LGBTQIA+ specific mental health charities and organisations here: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/guides-to-support-and-services/lgbtq-mental-health/useful-contacts/?o=10162#.WXniZBXyuUk )
Accessability:
DIY Space for London is on a single floor level, with access ramps, widened doors, an accessible toilet and plenty of space for maneuvering and getting away from crowds. There is plenty of seating available and the toilets are gender neutral and accessible.
On entering the venue there is a small ramp, which is quite steep and might require assistance going up and down. If you are a wheelchair user and not travelling with anyone, let us know in advance you are coming so someone at the venue can be there to assist.
Once you are in the venue – the bar, performance space, meeting room, practice space and smoking area are all step free. The bar has a lowered section on the left-hand side for accessible ordering of drinks. The accessible toilet is up a ramp which shouldn’t require assistance to go up.
