JOFA and Yesh Tikva are hosting a panel event on fertility options for single women, featuring Orthodox women's thought processes in making this life decision. The panel will include the spectrum of egg freezing, adoption, and donor insemination.
Patricia Mendell, LCSW, Founding member of the American fertility Association, and Member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, will be moderating, drawing on her years of experience in counseling for single parents and people who need donor eggs or sperm. The panelists will include a single professional woman who has frozen her eggs, a single mother by choice through adoption, and a single mother by choice through artificial insemination. Panelists will share the stories of their thought processes, how they arrived at their decision, and how they feel about it now. Audience members will have a chance to ask questions of the panelists (including anonymously) and will be invited to stay for round-table discussions to further the conversation.
The goals of this event are to educate single women on their options, provide support for those in the process of making this decision, and to destigmatize single mothers by choice in the Orthodox Jewish community. This is also an opportunity to launch Yesh Tikva's new support group for women going through the process of freezing their eggs.
This event is hosted by JOFA and Yesh Tikva and co-sponsored by the UJA Federation- Fertility Task Force.
While this event is directed at single Orthodox women, all women are welcome to attend.
