Indian Women In Law: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

At pin First floor, B 1/8, Hauz Khas, near G Block market, after Crunch, New Delhi, 110016.
On 25th November 2017 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Description

Feminism in India with The Centre for Internet and Society invite you to a Wikipedia Edita-a-thon on 'Indian Women In Law'. In this Edit-a-thon, articles will be created and edited on Indian women lawyers and judges who either have no representation on Wikipedia or very less information is available on them. The articles will be created/edited in English and any other language the participant is comfortable in.

Why are we doing this? We are all aware of the large reach and popularity of Wikipedia. However, what most people don’t know is that, according to a study conducted in 2011, only 9% of the editors at Wikipedia were women. And the percentage for India is even lower, just 3%.

Wikipedia recognises the systemic gender bias that is created because of factors such as these and thus enables its diverse range of users to edit and create Wikipedia pages, with reliable and authentic sources.

What will we do? During the event, the first hour will be dedicated to introduction and briefing on how to create and edit articles on Wikipedia. Then participants will work in groups or individually on a pre-made list of women lawyers and judges who lack representation on Wikipedia. At the end of the day, all of this newly made Wikipedia pages will be collated.

When? 10 AM - 6 PM IST, Saturday, November 25, 2017

Where? CIS Delhi Office

Who can come? Anyone who is willing to help and create Wikipedia pages. No prior knowledge of creating/editing Wikipedia pages is needed. We especially encourage women and trans people to join us

Any other important information: Please bring your laptop along
