The event will mark the publication of small white monkeys, a text written by Sophie Collins during her time at GWL, making use of materials from GWL’s Archive and Lending Library collections, including the Violence Against Women Archives, which holds records from the Edinburgh and Glasgow Rape Crisis Centres, and the Zero Tolerance archives.
The project developed out of Sophie Collins commission by Book Works in collaboration with Glasgow Women’s Library as part of You Must Locate A Fantasy library residency scheme, which enables artists and writers to work with libraries, special collections and archives throughout the UK.
Glasgow Women’s Library is the only accredited museum in the UK dedicated to women’s lives, achievements and histories. The library’s archives include the Scottish Women’s Aid archives, the Women’s Suffrage Collection and the Scottish and National Abortion Campaign archives, as well as archives of artists’ work, including the Dorothy Dick and Hannah Frank collections.
This project has been generously supported by Glasgow Women’s Library, Creative Scotland, and Arts Council England.
