Not Your Average Book Club
Book club for moms who don't have time to read.
Not Your Average Book Club is a book club for moms/femme-identified parents and caregivers - the catch is you don't have to read the book! Different parenting books are selected each month. At each gathering the book's key information will be summarized then there will be time to discuss and share. The goal - to help femme parents get a little more information and perspective about their parenting choices and to feel more connected with others around these often difficult family topics. Family Collective wants to help families be agents of change rather than oppression. We want to help families stand together, believe in one another, and work together to help make life better for all.
November Theme - Raising Sexually Healthy Children
Book: From Diapers to Dating: A Parent's Guide to Raising Sexually Healthy Children, by Debra Haffner
Can you bring your children? Yes! Babysitting is available and very young ones are welcome to be with you during the book club. There is an open play space downstairs and pair of wonderful, qualified, fun babysitters. Email me if you plan to bring a child so I can anticipate numbers and ages (info@familycollective.org). Little babies that are sleeping or sitting with you are welcome to join the upstairs discussion group. Not sure if you can make it work with your child(ren) there but want or need to bring them? We welcome you to give it a try and step out or leave early if it's not working for any of you. We ask you provide $5, or what you can, to a tip pool for the babysitters.
Cost? We are collecting $10 to cover a donation to the space, snacks and other small expenses.
No reading, for real? Yes, for real. We will summarize the book during our time together and then discuss the information in the context of our lives. One person tipped us off to the idea of listening to the books as audio books, which we also love as an idea. But is NOT necessary AT ALL. Just come.
Any questions? Email info@familycollective.org
