Join G.R.R.R.L. Collective on Wednesday, November 1st, for our monthly feminist and queer open mic! This month, instead of having a featured artist, we'll be asking attendees to compose around a theme: sanctuary, or home. Your response to "sanctuary"/"home" may be a song, spoken word piece, short story, dance/movement performance (of about 5min or less, please), etc. Create however you create, but consider using this as a prompt!
Questions/ideas you might consider when composing your piece (or choosing something you've created in the past):
•What does it mean to be a refugee seeking safety, food, shelter, sustenance?
•What does it feel like to be pushed out of your home due to gentrification?
•What does it mean to have to deal with a slumlord?
•How do poverty or oppression prevent sanctuary?
•What does it mean to not have the ability to move out of a toxic environment?
•What does it mean to have your own home that is clean, habitable, and safe?
Of course, there are no wrong answers, and the list of questions above is not exhaustive (and only a guideline anyway). And there will still be space for performances unrelated to the prompt!
The courtyard behind Rainbow Juices is concrete, so please BYO blanket or camping chair to be more comfortable!
***All G.R.R.R.L. Collective events strive to create a safer space for all and are completely sober. We ask that attendees of the open mics be sensitive to performers' courage and vulnerability in sharing their performances -- please do not take video or photos of performers without their explicit consent.***
Access & Transportation information:
