Based in London, Kadija Kamara is a singer songwriter who best describes her sound as ‘Alternative Soul’. With a love of 60’s and 70’s analogue sounds, Kadija combines her affinity for retro soul music with a host of modern influences. To date, her accomplishments include winning the MTV Iggy Artist of the Week poll and getting awarded PRS For Music Individual funding for her Artist Development Programme. Previous collaborations include the likes of Joey Negro, Zeb Bias and many more. She has released records under various labels, including Z Records, Defected, and Soul Heaven. More recently Kadija curated a night called Lady, which showcases leading female musicians within the underground and commercial music scene. She currently holds a residency at The Finsbury, Manor House, with promoters Lost In The Manor. Her latest venture sees her taking Lady south of the river to Pop Brixton, for Lady Festival on Sun 15th Oct. Her latest Single Eyes On You was recently premiered by Clash Magazine, which will be included in release of her forthcoming EP – Nothing Left To Lose this Autumn. With her incredibly rich vocals, (at times recalling the homeliness of classic soul and Americana vocalists like Aretha and The Shirelles), and her sexy visceral sound, it’s looking like the music that Kadija releases this year will be her finest work yet. The results she’s finding are unique, vital and exceptional.

Stac:

Having released her debut album on WahWah45s in 2010, 2017 sees STAC write, record, co-produce and self-release her follow up EP. Perpetual delivers timeless, compelling song writing and combines achingly beautiful melodies with Badu-esq cool. Compared by Mark Ronson to a young Minnie Ripperton, in a world saturated by the ‘Indie Girl’ vocal, her voice cuts effortlessly through. “It’s so undignified, how you can’t see what I’ve made you try. How the holes just won’t let us collide, but I can’t let you slip by” - Harp Produced with the help of Memotone (William Yates), Perpetual is an idiosyncratic mix of live and electronic sounds, which is immediately evident in the glorious opener Me and You, a song that begins simply with pianette and vocals and crescendos into a concoction of brass, strings, vocal harmonies, drum pads, electronic samples and a helicopter. The rather perky Perpetual is an uplifting instant classic that you are sure you heard that time you travelled back to 1956 on your gap year - but definitely didn’t. The laid back Hippo Love is a dreamy jazz tinged invitation for a lover to make up their bloody mind. And lastly, Harp has reduced many a stone-hearted goblin-troll to tears. Throw Blue Daisy’s Hawaiian Bass* remix of Hippo Love into the mix and you have a startlingly original EP.
