Feminism and Cycling Event

Description

Day at the Feminist Library celebrating women, feminism and cycling!
Including presentations, discussion, workshops and merchandise. All welcome!

11:30AM – Yoga for Cyclists
Stretch out those tired cycling muscles! Having studied in India, Lavinia White Healing is a qualified yoga and meditation teacher with a strong focus on realising the connection between mind, body and spirit. Instagram: @lavinia_white_healing, Facebook: @laviniawhitehealing.

12:30PM - DIY patch making workshop
Make your own original stencil designs and spray with fabric spray paint, use paint pens and cool fabrics!
Materials will be provided, bring your own fabric if you want to.

1:30PM – Break
Tea and coffee available, bring your own lunch.
A chance to browse the Library’s collection, including books on women, sport, and health.
Stall from Ride with Wolves cycle wear. Eco-friendly, stylish and reflective cycle gear that challenges gender stereotypes and embraces the DIY ethos of the cycling community.

2.30PM - Talk - Cycling to Suffrage: The Bicycle and women’s emancipation from Victorian times to today
- with Sheila Hanlon, author and academic who specialises in the social and political history of women’s cycling. Find out how the bicycle was integrated into the campaign tactics of the organised suffrage movement.

4PM - Cycologic (2016) Film Screening
Directors: Emilia Stålhammar, Elsa Lövdin and Veronica Pålsson.
An award-winning film depicting a piece of Amanda Ngabirano’s tireless journey to make Uganda more bicycle-friendly, and her dream of having bicycle lanes in Kampala. Trailer: https://vimeo.com/185684431
