On Labor Day weekend, September 1, 2 & 4, 2017, local organizations are coming together to bring you a weekend of activities to celebrate and nourish our community spirit. It will include three days of education, demonstrations, food, fun family-centered activities, and performing arts entertainment. This will be a series of FREE public events that will give people an opportunity to learn more about several local organizations that serve the Española Valley.

In advance of the Labor Day Weekend events, Renewable Energy Action –Española will present two public seminars facilitated by Luis Torres at the Northern New Mexico College Board room.

• Monday August 28 6:30pm ‘What is Community Solar’ David Munoz
7:30pm ‘So you want to buy an electric car’ Jay Levine

Opening Events
The celebrations will begin Friday, September 1st from 5-7 pm, at the Center for the Arts Theater and Gallery at Northern New Mexico College with a visual art opening and reception ’Stories from the Earth’, with light food and beverages. Featured artists; Sabra Moore, Farm Story Banners, sculpture by Roxanne Swentzell and oil paintings by Roger Montoya. Exhibition runs from August 23- September 9th with a gallery talk with the artists on September 7 at 12:00 noon. The evening will continue with a special presentation by Chicago-based contemporary dance company, Coco Daco Dance Project, dances by the Holy Faith Break dancers and Mina Fajardo Flamenco Compania from 7-9 pm.

Saturday, September 2nd
• 2:00-6:00 pm – Regeneration Festival Española
Tewa Women United will be offering a tree planting workshop and ceremony, TWU Tsaya In’/Circle of Grandmother’s youth blessing sponsor dedication and youth activities at the Española Healing Foods Oasis located at the Valdez Park on Vietnam Veterans Memorial Road.

• 10:00-4:00 pm – ECM 5th Year Anniversary Celebration
The Española Community Market (ECM) will be celebrating their 5th Year Anniversary as a co-op on 312 S. Paseo de Onate with an all-day open house, free food sampling, cooking demonstrations and more. From 3-4pm there will be a special cake cutting and welcoming speech by Andy Salazar, ECM Board President. The ECM Annual Membership Meeting will follow the festivities from 4-6pm and all are welcome to attend.

Monday, September 4th
10:00am-5:00pm - Chile Festival Celebration
The closing event will celebrate local agriculture at the Española Farmers Market on Railroad Ave and will feature their annual Chile Festival Celebration. The days’ events will include an Heirloom Chile Cook-Off at 1:00 pm, live music, a demonstration of the Key Line plow by Emigdio Ballon, agricultural booths on solar ovens, traditional hornos and Bob Dunsmore presenting low- and no-cost solar applications for year-round gardening and more.
