Paris, 1880. Bildhauer Auguste Rodin soll inspiriert von Dantes "Göttlicher Komödie" den Eingang des neuen Kunstgewerbemuseums im Pariser Louvre gestalten. Zu dieser Zeit nimmt er auch die 24 Jahre jüngere Camille Claudel als seine Schülerin und Geliebte, die dem Meister bald ebenbürtig ist. Rodin lebt mit Bauerntochter Rose zusammen und pflegt weitere Affären, während er zum berühmtesten Bildhauer seiner Zeit wird.

Opulent ausgestattetes, in Cannes präsentiertes Porträt des berühmten und erfolgreichen Bildhauers Auguste Rodin von Regieveteran Jacques Doillon, das von der Darstellung von Vincent Lindon als Titelheld, der manisch an seiner Kunst arbeitete und die Frauen liebte. Die aufstrebende Izïa Higelin tritt in die Fußstapfen von Isabelle Adjani und Juliette Binoche, die Rodins Geliebte Camille Claudel in eigenen Filmen spielten.
