In these troubling times, many of us miss the late Joan Kirner for her wise counsel as well as the jolt into action her advice or speeches would inspire. In her absence, the inaugural "What Would JK Do?" event will allow the audience to hear from a panel of progressive women about what they think, as well as what Joan would expect us to do, about current challenges to the feminist and progressive movement. Come and join us for good company, good insights and good food over afternoon tea.
OUR GREAT PANEL:
• Jenny Macklin, Federal Shadow Minister for Families and Social Services
• Jill Hennessy, State Minister for Health and Ambulance Services
• Sally McManus, Secretary, ACTU
• Joumanah El Matrah, CEO, Australian Muslim Women's Centre for Human Rights
• Panel facilitated by Hutch Hussein, State ALP President
COST: $49 unwaged/$69 waged, includes warm refreshments and afternoon tea
PUBLIC TRANSPORT OR PARKING OPTIONS: Walk or tram it from Melbourne Central train station, Tram (No's 55, 57 & 59) or parking lot in Franklin St or at Victoria Market.
This event is a fundraiser for the Joan Kirner Gender Gap Research Fund, established to honour Joan’s desire for EMILY’s List to continue research which identified what women want, need and expect from government, ensuring women’s voices and views influence Labor’s policy-making process. Research that helps Labor win the women's vote and, in turn, government.
