Monologues from the Makom

At Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, New York (NY), United States
On 14th August 2017 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Description

“Makom” literally means "place" in Hebrew, but is also the most popular Talmudic euphemism for "vagina." Monologues from the Makom, inspired by Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, will be an all-women's* space to share and listen to self-authored creative pieces related to sexuality, body image, gender, and Jewish identity.

Because it's time we talked about this.

The event will showcase individual women sharing their prepared pieces on the theme “THINGS ARE NOT AS THEY SEEM.” We encourage you to be creative with that theme, and offer an interpretation that speaks to you and your story! Pieces may take the form of traditional monologues OR other modalities, such as poetry, short story, visual art, or music. Monologues from the Makom is an affirming, positive space where all voices are warmly welcomed. We ask that all participants come with an attitude of respect, openness, and appreciation toward those brave enough to share their stories.
