It's time to get ready for the Louisiana legislative session that begins April 10!
We're very excited to announce that we'll have a special guest with us to report on Capitol issues -- Sue Lincoln!
Sue Lincoln is the Louisiana politics reporter for NPR, anchoring "Capitol Access" daily for 6 stations around the state. A veteran broadcaster originally from Southern California, she has covered 4 Louisiana governors and innumerable elections. Based at WRKF in Baton Rouge, she has covered more than 30 legislative sessions.
She will give us her expert analysis of the upcoming session and take questions.
We'll discuss what potential bills are in the works, who are our local legislators are who need to hear from us (we'll help you find out who yours are if you don't know), and how to be involved if you have limited time in your schedule. We'll also hear from Louisiana Courts Matter.
The Legislative Agenda for Women, of which New Orleans NOW is a founding organization, focuses on equal pay, Medicaid expansion, sex education standards, and violence against women in state legislation.
NOW's core issues are reproductive rights, ending violence against women, economic justice, racial equality, LGBT rights, and the ERA, so we welcome the opportunity for activists to bring local opportunities to our group.
Feel free to bring like-minded friends -- all are welcome!
