Berta Lives On / Berta Vive

At Kentish Town Rd Bridge on Regent's Canal
On 4th March 2017 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Description

One year since she spread her wings...

On March 4th we will remember and celebrate the life of our sister Berta Caceres, one year since she spread her wings: 'Berta Lives On, COPINH is Strong'

We will gather at the mural-shrine created for Berta on the Regent's Canal - under the Kentish Town Road Bridge - to pay tribute to her fierce struggle in defence of Grandmother Earth.

We will also remember the on-going peaceful struggle of Water Protectors in Standing Rock in North Dakota - US. Despite being forcibly removed from their sacred camp, they continue to tell the world that the cycle of violence against women, children and peaceful defenders of the water and the land must end now! #NoDAPL

Water and land defenders in the Global South and Indigenous North continue to lose their lives fighting for justice, defending their indigenous lands, homes, communities and natural environment from the destructive forces of racialised capitalism, privatisation and extractivism. Let's hold this space for them.

WHAT TO BRING
Bring your candles, prayers, messages of solidarity, poems, songs and offerings.

ACCESSIBILITY
The space is wheelchair accessible
*We will be taking pictures and filming the moment, please let us know if you would prefer not to be photraphed or filmed**

Berta had faced repeated death threats because of her work and dedication resisting the construction of the 'Agua Zarza' dam, to defend the water and land that her community depend on. On 2 March 2016 she was murdered in her home.

Together, we will join the hundreds of actions, ceremonies, prayers and acts of solidarity around the world proving once more that:
Berta, her voice and her fight didn’t die, it multiplied.

This event is part of a global day of action called by Copinh Intibucá: Acción Global: “A 1 Año de su Siembra: Berta Vive, Copinh Sigue”

----------------------------------------
A un año de su siembra...

Queridxs.
