What does it mean to be queer in South Asia? Does the word “queer” even work there? How do we think of non-normative sexualities and genders there outside of the stereotypes of victimhood and oppression created by the global north? Come and take a walk through the complex journeys of queerness in South Asia with fiction, film, video and history. Remember–there are no easy answers. But to start with, there are many stories!
Sayan Bhattacharya is a queer activist from India and a Doctoral Student at the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies.
Just as a reminder, Tongues Untied is a discussion group created to center the voices of queer and trans indigenous people & people of color. Please be mindful when attending an event.
As always, there will be food to accompany this event. Hope to see you there!
