Womensmarchlondon.com

THIS MARCH IS INCLUSIVE AND ALL ARE WELCOME.

On January 21 2017, the first day of Donald Trump’s Presidency, women-led marches, welcoming all participants, will take place across the world, with the largest expected in Washington D.C.. We call on people of all genders to march in London as part of an international day of action in solidarity.

We will march, wherever we march, for the protection of our fundamental rights and for the safeguarding of freedoms threatened by recent political events. We unite and stand together for the dignity and equality of all peoples, for the safety and health of our planet and for the strength of our vibrant and diverse communities.

We will come together in the spirit of democracy, honouring the champions of human rights who have gone before us. Please spread the word, so that our numbers are too great to ignore and the message to the world is clear. The politics of fear and division have no place in 2017.

VOLUNTEERS
We need people to help steward the march and help out on the day

Disability Access information

Getting there:
US Embassy - North Audley Street is earmarked for those with access needs, and other marchers are strongly encouraged NOT to use this entrance to the vicinity. If you would like to be met by a disability access steward, please come to the corner of North Audley Street and Grosvenor Square.
Dedicated disability access stewards will be available throughout your day. They will hold GREEN placards. They are there to help you access the event but will not be able to provide any self-care needs.
There will be a viewing area beside the stage in front of the embassy for those who would like to use it.
An alternative drop-off point away from the crowds by the US Embassy is Culross Street. Two dedicated access stewards will remain here until 12.40.

Marching:
People with access needs may wish to join the GREEN group who will be marching directly behind the front line. BSL interpreters will be marching in the Green group.
Two dedicated disability access stewards will be marching at the back of the procession.
There are plenty of cafes on the route which you may wish to use as rest stops, accompanied by an access steward if you prefer.
If the march becomes overwhelming and you need to leave it and rejoin later, an access steward will support you to do this.

Transport links (bus) from the US Embassy to Trafalgar Square, to the short route and from various spots along the route to Trafalgar Square are currently being researched and will be published shortly.

Short route:
For people who prefer, there are drop off points for people joining the march on Pall Mall from the north, at the bottom of Regent Street; from the south, Waterloo Place. There will be access stewards with green placards here. Recommended to be here by 1.20 to join the procession.

Trafalgar Square:
The access route into Trafalgar Square is via Cockspur Street, taking you round a step-free zone and directly to the viewing area in front of the D-ring where the screen will be.
There will be a clear pathway, monitored by stewards, to facilitate easy access into and out of this area.

All speeches, including those at the US Embassy and Trafalgar Square, will be interpreted into British Sign Language by volunteer registered sign language interpreters (RSLIs). In Trafalgar Square, signers will be filmed so signing is included on the screen.

Drop off and Pick up Point for Trafalgar Square:
Police advice is to use the East side of the Square, either side of Canada House SW1Y 5BJ, for cars and taxis dropping off and picking up. Recommended to arrive early before the road closure is in place if you're travelling directly to the Square and not marching, or if you're cutting your march short - 1.20pm.

Electric Wheelchair Recharging:
Electric wheelchairs users have told us they recharge wheelchairs in the National Gallery, right by Trafalgar Square. There may be other spots on the route where you can recharge, such as cafes or restaurants.

First Aid:
There are a minimum of 20 First Aiders, each with radios, lucozade and first aid kits, joining the march.
There will be a first aid tent in Trafalgar Square with a comfortable area for people to lie down if needed.

Access Phone Number:
A dedicated phone number will be available on the day for people with questions relating to access. Please ONLY use it for this purpose. It may be difficult to talk or hear on the day so texting might be more effective. The number will be activated on Saturday 21st January, 11.00am.
It is: 07572 650733.

Facebook Live Streaming:
If you can't make it, the entire event will be live-streamed on our website and Facebook page.

Toilets:
The three Changing Place toilets near the route can be found in this map:
