Intersectional Feminism presents... Queering Feminism!
As both feminist movements and queer movements have grown and branched out, there's become an element of conflict between them: namely, a lack of inclusivity within the feminist world, leading to an exclusion and isolation of queer persons and groups who have had an important role in feminist histories, and who should continue to have a place of refuge in feminist movements.
This evening hopes to provide workshops and discussion around the issues facing queer people and groups within feminism, and how to go about making feminism more inclusive.
Questions and topics will include the place of non-binary people in a movement often called 'the equalising of men and women', the need to fight TERFs (trans exclusionary radical feminists), reclaiming sexuality in a world where not everyone experiences sexual attraction, alongside other themes. If there's anything you'd like to see discussed particularly, please feel free to comment below, message me (Bex Dudley) or even just bring it along on the night!
Though this is an LGBTQ+ event, it's not intended to be an LGBTQ+ safe space; that is to say, allies are more than welcome. However, please remember your role as an ally- LGBTQ+ experiences must be given room to be vocalised, no tone policing or corrections etc.
There may be triggering content; there will be a breakout table with chilled activities away from the discussion to provide for this, and a chance to chill and chat a little after. However, please remember that there won't be anyone 'trained' as such in dealing with triggers <3
