Panel discussion: Perspectives on the Hijab

At NK10
On 4th October 2016 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Description

In light of the controversial burkini ban in France, this panel discussion will focus on reasons for wearing the hijab, Western and Islamic feminist perceptions of wearing the hijab, and how it has been featured in recent debates. This event is done in affiliation with the Aberdeen University Anthropology society.

The panel consists of three guest speakers, Arifa Hussain, Dr. Johan Rasanayagam and Dr. Samantha May, who will all be given around 15 minutes to speak. THis will be followed by short break when tea, coffee, halal sandwiches and baked goods will be served. Afterwards we will then continue with questions and comments from the audience.
