Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Protests and Suffragettes: Strong Women of Clydeside

At Glasgow Women's Library, Glasgow, United Kingdom
On 2nd July 2016 noon - 3:30 p.m.

Description

Wikipedia has a gender problem. In 2011 the Wikimedia Foundation found that only 15% of biographies on English Wikipedia are about women, and less than 10% of contributors identify as female. Join us for this Wikipedia Edit-a-thon and help to correct this imbalance!

Protests and Suffragettes: Strong Women of Clydeside Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, on Saturday 2nd July, 12pm to 3:30pm at Glasgow Women's Library. Free.

You’ll learn to edit Wikipedia using the new and easy-to-use Visual Editor, and find out more about the drive to get more women onto and editing the site. We’ll then spend time creating and improving articles relating to Glasgow’s Suffragettes, Rent Strike organisers, and other strong women of the Clydeside. If you’ve spotted an article that needs improving, bring along your queries and we’ll see what we can do to help!

This event is hosted by Govan’s Hidden Histories, a creative team of artists, activists and amateur historians led by t s Beall. Since 2013 they have been researching women’s roles in protest movements in and around Govan, and have hosted guided walks, conducted oral histories and archival research to recover women’s voices and stories relating to the 1915 Rent Strikes, and more recent protest movements.

For full information about the event please see GWL's website. It helps us with our planning if attendees book via our website, but if you haven't been able to book a place and would like to come please join us: http://womenslibrary.org.uk/event/protests-and-suffragettes-strong-women-of-clydeside-wikipedia-edit-a-thon/
