Um dem langen Arm der Nazis zu entkommen, ist der erfolgreiche jüdische Schriftsteller Stefan Zweig gezwungen aus seiner Heimat Österreich zu fliehen. Seine Werke sind den Nationalsozialisten ein Dorn im Auge. Man unterstellt ihmunerlaubten Waffenbesitz und ordnet eine Hausdurchsuchung an.Am 20. Februar 1934 tritt Stefan Zweig die Flucht nach London an. Eine neue Heimat zu finden fällt ihm dann aber schwer, durch die Ereignisse im kriegsgebeutelten Europa fühlt er sich entwurzelt. Er kommt nicht zur Ruhe.
